When Barbara Sweeney started the Food & Words Writers’ Festival in 2012, she didn’t have clue what she was doing or why. But she’d had an idea she couldn't shake and knew she had to invest time and energy into making it happen.
Over time, the ideas started to coalesce, the rhythm took on an easier cadence and people started to get what she was on about. And they loved it.
Now, eight years on, this lovely little Writers’ Festival has come into its own. It’s still hard to describe what makes it so special. On the surface, it’s a one-day event, held in a beautiful historic space (lots of sandstone and good vibes), with a speakers program that is, in turn, fascinating, inspiring and challenging. Underneath, it’s much more than that.
Food & Words – 14 September, 10am-4pm
The Mint, 10 Macquarie Street, Sydney
Tickets $330 (includes lunch and a full day program)
